The Minnesota Twins have been without Carlos Correa for over a month. He is suffering from plantar fasciitis again and the injury is keeping him out of action longer than expected. It is definitely a foot problem, but it could also be a shoe problem.
Minnesota Twins need Carlos Correa to find the right kicks
Last season, the Minnesota Twins saw Carlos Correa attempt to play despite his plantar fasciitis, which resulted in a significant decrease in performance. Correa was named an All-Star and was the club’s best player according to fWAR.
Having Correa on the field is an advantage, but only when he is performing at his best. Correa’s delay is partly due to his footwear, reports local insider Darren “Doogie” Wolfson.
“They’re still trying to find the shoes. The shoe for the right foot. It’s still uncomfortable when he’s running straight… He told me the other day that if I had told him on August 15 that I was still not back in the squad, he would have said, ‘You’re totally crazy.’ And now we’re here and they still can’t figure this thing out. There’s a sponsorship problem. He gets a lot of money. He’s a Nike guy. They’re trying to find the shoe. You can’t make this stuff up.”

You can look back at Carlos Correa’s 2015 Topps rookie cards and see the superstar wearing Nike shoes. He has always been a Nike athlete. That fact hasn’t changed, but the silhouette has. Correa has been wearing Jordan Retro 1s this season. While they showcase the Jordan brand, the cleats still fall under the Nike umbrella.

Nike should look into a special insert or silhouette for Correa. He is dealing with contract issues that would prevent him from moving to another brand. Nike obviously doesn’t want this issue to reflect on their brand either.
Carlos Correa must return to the Minnesota Twins
After posting just 1.8 fWAR in 135 games last year, Correa has posted 3.6 fWAR in just 75 games for the Twins this season. He was by far the team’s best player and the lineup wouldn’t be the same without him. If Byron Buxton were to drop to the bench, Rocco Baldelli’s club would be even more saturated.

The Minnesota Twins have just 42 games left in the regular season. They are 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central Division. Baldelli’s team is one of the best in baseball, and they need a clean bill of health to show that. Correa will need time to acclimate before the postseason begins, and he may also need some rehab.
In addition to treating his plantar fasciitis, Correa and the Twins also need to find equipment that will prevent the injury in the future. Correa likely doesn’t want to cut ties with Nike, and that means the company should look for alternatives as well.

Plantar fasciitis is certainly a problem in itself, but not having comfortable shoes to play in is a completely different matter.
