Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez spend time with Pope Francis.
The 60-year-old Amazon founder and the 54-year-old former reporter and presenter – whose first children’s book comes out next month – shared their latest summer vacation adventure in an Instagram post on Thursday, August 15.
“It was an honor for Jeff and I to spend time with His Holiness @franciscus at his home in the Vatican,” Sánchez wrote. “His wisdom, warmth and humor were deeply touching. He reminded us not to take life too seriously, a simple but powerful reminder to keep lightness in our hearts.”
Sánchez, the vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, said another issue they discussed was the environment, which is very close to her heart.
“We also talked about the urgent need for climate action, an issue that is very close to his heart, as it is to all of us at the Bezos Earth Fund,” Sánchez wrote. “His belief that we find beauty and meaning in everything we do touched me deeply. I love that he encourages priests to read poetry and literature to stay connected to the human spirit.”
She added: “I am grateful for this incredible blessing and gentle wisdom he shared with us.”
The visit took place a month after the Pope was accused of repeating a homophobic insult for which he had been criticized weeks earlier, after which the Vatican apologized.

Sánchez has had a lot of adventures this summer.
Last week, she posted an Instagram video showing her flying son Nikko Gonzalez, 23, and boyfriend Orlando Bloom in a helicopter so the two could go skydiving.
“I guess you could call me a helicopter mom,” she joked in the caption.
She even took time for a girls’ trip this summer.
In August, Kim Kardashian shared photos with Sánchez and Olivia Pearson from a short vacation in Greece.
“Greece this summer” The Kardashians Star wrote in her caption, which showed several pictures from the fun trip.
“Best trip ever,” Pearson wrote in a comment, while Sánchez replied that it was “so much fun.”
