PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The highly anticipated Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show, a new entertainment project from Dolly Parton, is nearing completion in Panama City Beach.
While there will be a lot of digging going on at the new site, it’s not to find buried treasure, but to make sure the new attraction has a solid foundation. Now that this crucial step is complete, the team is celebrating their progress.
“We held what we call a topping-out ceremony here at Pirates Voyage. It’s a very old construction tradition that simply means we’re moving on to the next phase,” said Ellen Liston, public relations manager for Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show.
During the ceremony, dozens of community members made history by signing the final metal beam that completes the framework of the theater. With this milestone, Pirates Voyage is now moving full steam ahead.
“We’re on to our next project. The next big part of our project at Pirates Voyage is digging the 15-foot-deep lagoon that will eventually be filled with about 600,000 gallons of water. After that, the pirate ships will arrive,” Liston said.
Once completed, the 5,180 square meter venue will accommodate 1,000 guests per show.
“I really wanted to get back to a beach and Panama City Beach is just a great area for families,” Liston added.
Both the weather and the reception by the community were warm.
“The community has been phenomenal… the construction phase was phenomenal, so we know the post-opening phase will be even better,” Liston said.
Since construction work is progressing somewhat faster than planned, the theater is expected to open in spring 2025.
