The Eagles made their first drive down the field since the first quarter, kicking another field goal to cut the Patriots’ lead to 10-6 early in the fourth quarter. That set the stage for New England’s other rookie quarterback, Joe Milton, who entered the game after a superb 53-yard kickoff return by undrafted rookie David Wallis.
On his first possession, Milton got a first down and converted it with a 12-yard pass to Wallis, but the drive stalled. Still, Wallis’ yards on the kickoff return and the one catch were enough to set up Joey Slye’s second field goal, this time from 45 yards, making the score 13-6.
After a three-and-out by the Eagles, the Milton-led offense delivered a three-and-out of its own, and the Pats’ performance became sloppy as another botched snap, a play change that resulted in the quarterback running the wrong way and ten men on the field, requiring a timeout, all came into play.
The Eagles responded by taking the lead on their next drive thanks to a strong performance by former Patriots practice squad member Will Grier, who completed a seven-play, 70-yard touchdown drive and two-point conversion to give the Eagles a 14-13 lead with just under five minutes left.
Milton and Bailey Zappe each had a chance to make up the one-point deficit, but were unable to launch a scoring attack. The Patriots’ third botched snap of the game went through Zappe’s legs, the Eagles took advantage and were able to end the game.
