CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Sheep, cattle and pizza, it’s a unique but very popular combination at Luna Valley Farm in our town of Decorah.
In 2017, the Beard family decided to serve wood-fired pizza to guests on their farm.
There is virtually no cell phone reception at this location, so visitors are forced to engage in conversation and enjoy the sights.
Since it is an organic farm, the family says you never know whether you will see grazing cattle or a flock of sheep while eating.
“In the Midwest, no matter where we drive for a half hour or 45 minutes, we inevitably pass farms. There are just a lot of farms in the Midwest. But I think it’s really a rare experience to stop, explore one and sit on one and have a meal,” said Maren Beard, co-owner of Luna Valley Farm.
The family converted an old cowshed into a commercial kitchen and baked hundreds of pizzas every weekend.
Luna Valley Farm is open to the public by reservation only, mostly Fridays and Saturdays from May to October. Check opening hours online.
Visitors walk the “Pizza Trail” to get locally made beverages like beer from Pulpit Rock or Toppling Goliath and cider from Convergence Cider Works.
It’s a place where you can support local while creating lasting memories in our town of Decorah.
