October 12th will likely be the biggest official visiting weekend in BYU basketball history.
AJ Dybantsa announced today that he will be attending BYU the weekend of October 12th, and JJ Mandaquit’s father confirmed to me that his son will be attending BYU the same weekend as Dybantsa.
Dybantsa and Mandaquit are teammates at Utah Prep and were teammates for Team USA at the FIBA World Championship the past two years. Both players are close friends, so their visit on the same weekend is notable. Sources have told me that AJ originally suggested visiting BYU in September, but that changed after Utah Prep’s trip to China last week. After discussions with JJ and his family, the Dybantsa family rescheduled AJ’s visit to JJ’s in October.
Dybantsa’s credentials are well known and JJ is a great player in his own right. The 4-star point guard hails from Hawaii and is the 51st ranked player in the class of 2025 according to 247 Sports. JJ is a typical point guard who is a fantastic playmaker and passer.
The weekend of October 12th coincides with BYU football’s game against #21 Arizona. AJ and JJ are both close friends, and their desire to schedule their BYU visits at the same time is a positive sign for BYU. Both players have plenty of suitors, but BYU offers them a chance to play together at the next level. JJ has been recruited by BYU since the former staff was in Provo, and he took an unofficial visit to BYU last year on the day of the Cincinnati football game on September 29th.
Regardless of the excitement surrounding the football game, AJ and JJ’s visit to BYU this weekend will really raise the stakes for BYU athletics and excite the fan base.
