Sometimes an A-list celebrity becomes synonymous with something because you see them in it all the time – like all the time. Katie Holmes wears her controversial fisherman sandals like it’s nobody’s business; Jennifer Aniston wears her iconic flip-flops most of the time; and Queen Letizia of Spain wears her raffia espadrilles so often that I actually immediately associate these summer shoes with the royal family. But on a recent vacation, she changed it up and opted for a slightly more practical footwear that deserves a place in your closet too. So, make room!
Queen Letizia was photographed vacationing with her family on their usual Majorca holiday, looking as stylish and on-trend as ever. Not to mention, it was the perfect late summer look that you’ll definitely want to pack for your last minute vacation (I definitely will!). She wore a pink and red tie-dye linen two-piece set that consisted of a peplum-style top and a puffy, slightly sheer maxi skirt; it was the definition of casual and breezy. Although I haven’t been able to identify the label yet, I’m now on the hunt for a similarly printed two-piece because, wow.
But that’s not even the best part of the look – her accessories stole the show. She opted for a beautiful crochet bag, layered jewelry, sunglasses and last but not least, ultra-strappy, floor-hugging sandals that were the complete opposite of her typical espadrilles. But they’re chic, easy to wear and even easier to wear – a must-have for trekking on family holidays (or, you know, feigning You are in Italy and drinking an Aperol Spritz on a rooftop in New York.

The Queen’s sandals had a reasonable sole and plenty of straps. In fact, they looked very similar to the controversial gladiator sandals I wore all the time in the early 2000s, so maybe they’re due for a comeback? Whatever the case, strappy shoes like hers are a chic, comfortable choice as they’ll stay securely on your feet step after step. Just be careful not to get tan lines!
Although summer is coming to an end (cry face), there’s still plenty of time to wear strappy sandals. And honestly, there’s no better time than now to stock up, with so many retailers slashing their prices on warm-weather styles. So shop strappy sandals inspired by the Queen’s look below—I’ve got my eye on these Steve Maddens.
