LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) — Las Vegas union members will gather outside Virgin Hotels on Thursday for a picket line during the latest round of collective bargaining negotiations.
The Culinary and Bartenders Union has announced a rally and picket for Wednesday as workers continue to negotiate a new five-year contract amid a labor dispute with the real estate company.
The news comes after the union led over 700 hospitality workers on strike against the property in May, a first for the union in 22 years.
The picket line will form in front of the property at 5:30 p.m.
Virgin Hotels gave the following response to FOX5:
“Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is disappointed with the plan by the Culinary Workers Union 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 to demonstrate outside our property this afternoon. We have made every effort to negotiate in good faith and put the well-being of our team members first. At the conclusion of our last bargaining session on July 11, we informed the union that we were willing to meet again as soon as the union was ready. Since then, the union has not contacted us with possible dates for meetings. It is disappointing to us and all of our stakeholders that the union is spending time trying to gain influence through the media instead of working cooperatively and constructively to bring these negotiations to a mutually satisfactory conclusion. Our operations will not be impacted by the protest action and we remain committed to providing exceptional service.”
