Shohei Ohtani was the second biggest star at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night.
Instead, Hollywood’s spotlight was on his beloved dog, Decoy, who was used as the starting pitcher before the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the Baltimore Orioles.
While Ohtani crouched behind home base, Decoy – wearing an Ohtani jersey with the number 17 on it – retrieved the baseball on the mound and returned it to his All-Star Dog Dad.
It was a special night for Ohtani’s buddy, as the Dodgers gave away a “Shohei and Decoy” bobblehead figure featuring the two-way superstar with his dog on Wednesday night. A limited number of the figures were painted gold, which led to hundreds of Dodgers fans lining up at the stadium as early as 11 a.m. PT – more than eight hours before the scheduled first pitch at 7:10 p.m. PT.
Decoy had every reason to celebrate when the game began, as Ohtani hit his 42nd home run of the season to open the first run of the first inning.
It doesn’t get much better than this.
