Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, launched a shoe that combined the look of high heels with the alleged comfort of sneakers. Naturally, the internet was full of jokes.
What do you get when you cross a sneaker with a high heel? Sneex, a luxury shoe and footwear brand launched by Spanx founder Sara Blakely.
Blakely’s latest invention has only been available for a week, but the hybrid heels, also called “Hy-Heels,” have drawn mixed reactions online. Some don’t understand them, some are vehemently against them, and others appreciate the vision.
Sneex “combines the style of a traditional high heel with the performance and comfort of a sneaker,” the company said in a press release.
Here’s what you need to know.
The “major pain points” of paragraphs, solved
With the invention of Sneex, Blakely was able to solve three major pain points typical of high heel construction. She said the hybrid heels “offer women comfort and walkability without compromising on style.”
“I wanted to create a luxury high heel that prioritized how a woman felt, not just how she looked,” Blakely said in a statement. “We’re always told that ‘beauty is pain’ … but I don’t think it has to be that way. As a consumer, I’ve wanted to solve this problem for years.”
Blakely says the “magic hidden inside Sneex” can only be experienced and encourages women to try it for themselves.
“The women are either crying, dancing or running,” Blakely said. “They can’t believe the heel is three inches high!”
Internet reacts: Some love Sneex, others love to hate Sneex
Some people have expressed their admiration for Sneex and said that they should maybe just go out and try out the 10 available colors with single strap, double strap and wide strap for themselves.
Some are still skeptical about the durability of Sneex, and others have taken the opportunity to create Sneex memes as a result of the online discussion. The luxury shoe retails for between $395 and $595 and is available in sizes 5 to 11, the press release states.
