Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders follows in his father’s footsteps and signs a name, image and likeness deal with Nike that includes shoes and apparel.
Terms of the deal announced on Wednesday were not disclosed.
Nike’s football department posted on Instagram a picture of Sanders holding up a watch on his left wrist after a game. The caption above the picture of him in his No. 2 Buffaloes jersey reads, “You know what time it is.” Just below was a Nike swoosh. In the comments, the company wrote, “Now it’s a family business.”
Deion Sanders famously wore Nikes during his Hall of Fame career as a professional football player and as a baseball player. He switched to Under Armour a few years ago before returning to Nike last year. Colorado is a Nike school.
The deal was made on the eve of Colorado’s season opener against FCS heavyweight North Dakota State.
Shedeur Sanders is coming off a season in which he rushed for a school-record 3,230 yards and had the program’s best completion percentage (69.3%). But it took its toll – he was sacked 52 times and missed the season finale with a Fracture in the backThe constant pressure caused the Buffaloes to restructure their offensive line in the offseason.
However, his presence in the game earned him praise from new North Dakota State coach Tim Polasek.
“He’s the best player NDSU has played to date,” Polasek said. “It’s exciting. Our fans should be excited and appreciate the opportunity to see a first-round draft pick play quarterback against the Bison.”
In several early NFL mock drafts, Sanders is listed among the first 10 picks. The same goes for his teammate, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.
