KALONA — The Mid-Prairie District Churches will host the Watoto Children’s Choir on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Hillcrest Academy’s Celebration Hall.

The event is free and open to the public. Voluntary donations are accepted.

Hillcrest Academy is located at 1421 540th St. SW in Kalona.

Watoto, a Christian organization based in Uganda in East Africa, will perform songs from their new album “Better Days – There Is Hope,” according to a press release.

This six-month U.S. tour tells the story of orphaned and abandoned African children who, through love and care, have risen above their circumstances and are now poised to become Africa’s future leaders.

Watoto founded a local church in Kampala, Uganda in 1984 during a time of social unrest to bring hope and life to the nation.

Since then, Watoto has rescued thousands of orphaned and abandoned children. More than 100 children’s choirs have toured six continents, the press release states.

Since 1994, the choirs have performed for the President of the United States, met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and visited nearly every major parliament in the world.

Proceeds from the album will help Watoto provide education, medical care and a safe home to vulnerable children.

The production itself reflects the vibrant and colorful nature of Africa and takes the audience on an emotional journey as the children sing, dance and tell their personal stories, the press release states.
