Class of 2025 5-star point guard Mikel Brown, Jr. is scheduled to take official visits to Indiana and Kentucky in September.

These visits were first reported on the Indiana 247Sports site and the Kentucky On3 site, respectively.

Brown’s father confirmed to The Daily Hoosier the official visit to Indiana will take place from September 13-15. The visit to Kentucky will take place from September 27-29.

Eric Bossi of 247Sports also reports Brown’s upcoming visits to Maryland, UCF and Arizona in October and November.

The visit to Indiana will be Brown’s first to Bloomington and the IU staff has been working on this for a long time. IU made an offer to the Floridian native nearly two years ago. When TDH met Brown in July at the Adidas 3SSB Championships in Rock Hill, SC, he said the family wanted to arrange a visit to Indiana.

The 6-foot-3 Brown is a five-star prospect according to On3 Industry Average. He is the No. 12 player overall and the No. 2 point guard nationally, according to that source.

Guard play was not IU’s strength in the 2023-24 season, but Brown had paid attention the year before when Jalen Hood-Schifino was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year.

“It was phenomenal how they just let him rock, and that means a lot to me,” Brown told TDH about Hood-Schifino a year ago when we met him at the Adidas Circuit.

There has been speculation that Brown might wait until the winter or spring to make his college decision. If he does, he’ll have a chance to see how the new-look backcourt featuring Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle will be used in Mike Woodson’s offense.

When we met with Brown in July, he indicated that he intended to watch Indiana play this season, while also talking about what style of play he would like to see.

“Having the freedom to keep playing despite making mistakes is the most important thing for me,” Brown told TDH. “And having a coach that trusts you 100 percent to make the right plays so you can play freely and play your game. I think that’s great. That’s going to be important for me when I watch Indiana play this season, to see how he plays with those guards.”

Brown also spoke to TDH about what he looks for in a college program.

“Of course it has to be right on the pitch, but I also want a family environment off the pitch,” he said. “I want to be in a family environment where I’m looked after when I’m not with my family and where my family can visit me whenever they want. This whole family atmosphere thing is really important to me.”

There has also been speculation that Brown, who has had an endorsement deal with Adidas for some time, could end up at a school under that brand. He recently announced that he will transfer to the DME Academy in Daytona, Florida, for his senior season. The DME Academy is a featured Adidas program.

Indiana and Louisville are the main Adidas schools recruiting Brown. Kansas could also be a wildcard program. Kentucky, Texas, Providence, Alabama, Maryland, Arizona, UCF and Ole Miss are some of the non-Adidas schools involved. He has already taken official visits to Providence, Ole Miss and Alabama.

Brown is the fifth destination for IU’s class of 2025, which plans to take an official visit in the next few months.

Also coming are Jalen Haralson (August 31), Braylon Mullins (September 20), Trent Sisley (September 20) and Eric Reibe (October 4). Bryson Tiller made an official visit in December.
