Kelsea Ballerini’s dog Dibs has “inoperable cancer” in his heart

Kelsea Ballerini has shared a disturbing update about her dog Dibs.

The 30-year-old country singer announced in a series of Instagram stories on Wednesday, August 28, that Dibs was suffering from “inoperable heart cancer.”

Although Ballerini is “so, so proud” of her upcoming album, PatternShe finds it “pretty disingenuous to promote this album and announce the tracklist… without updating you on my favorite rights,” she began her Stories post.

Ballerini explained that in the last few days, doctors discovered that her dog has heart cancer. “He is not in pain and thankfully it has not spread any further,” she wrote. “We will be giving him the ‘big’ medications to make sure he has as many more pleasant and happy days (weeks, months 🙏) as possible.”

She also thanked the “amazing” doctors, her mother and her boyfriend Chase Stokes, noting that he is “the best dog dad in the world.”

“He gets lots of cuddles and food from his little family,” she wrote.

“It’s a complex and emotional time,” admitted Ballerini. “He has been my baby and my support for the last nine years and has been with us all on this whole journey.”

“I know that many of you care about him and send him your prayers and love. From the bottom of our hearts… thank you,” she concluded. “He’s wagging his tail right now, probably to say thank you.”

Stokes, 31, reposted Ballerini’s Instagram Stories post along with his own note on his own Instagram Stories.

“It’s been a rough few days here. But our man is in good spirits and eating all his favorite foods,” Stokes wrote. “Thank you to everyone who has hugged him online here or friends who call him family. Thank you. Thank you for your love, thank you for your positive words.”

He concluded: “We have a journey ahead of us every day, but we will make sure that these are the most beautiful and loving days for him.”

In her second Instagram Stories post, the four-time Grammy nominee also shared a cute photo of her dog, with the heart emoji over his body.

Ballerini adopted Dibs in 2015 and named him after her hit song from that year. Since welcoming him into her life, she has shared several photos of him on Instagram and even created a separate account for him.

The last post on the dog’s account included photos of the singer and Dibs playing in the snow in January.
