The City of Colorado Springs hosts a discussion on urban growth and incorporation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – The City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities are hosting a panel discussion on “Ways a City Can Grow” Wednesday evening.

The discussion is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. 11 News plans to livestream the event after it begins at the top of this article.

According to a city press release, a panel of experts will “discuss and share insights on what cities should consider when considering growth and annexation, including economic development, infrastructure, state and local trends, environmental impacts and quality of life.”

Speakers include Kelly Caulfield, executive director of the Common Sense Institute, Nancy Gedeon, demographer for the state of Colorado, Russ Sands, division chief of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, Julie Herlands, vice president of TischlerBise, and Mark Tremmel, principal architect and founder of TDG Architecture.

According to the city, the panel was organized as part of AnnexCOS, “the City of Colorado Springs’ plan to comprehensively evaluate the city’s approach to annexations with a view to more financially sustainable and resilient land use.”

This came shortly after an annexation proposal, Amara, was rejected by the Colorado Springs City Council earlier this month.
