The NFL reportedly wants to impose broadcast restrictions on Tom Brady if he is named part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders

Tom Brady will face challenges as a sportscaster if he becomes part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. According to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, as a Raiders owner and Fox sportscaster, Brady would have to follow several restrictions, including not entering other teams’ facilities and not attending other teams’ practices. Brady also cannot attend production meetings for the broadcast, either in person or virtually.

The NFL presented the rules to owners on Tuesday in a slide titled “Brady Broadcast Restrictions,” and they affect only the seven-time Super Bowl quarterback, not other members of Fox’s broadcast team. A league source told ESPN that owners have concerns about conflicts of interest if Brady potentially becomes a minority owner of the Raiders.

In addition to these restrictions, Brady would likely have to abide by other guidelines common to team owners, including not publicly criticizing referees and other teams, following the NFL’s anti-gambling policy and being subject to the league’s anti-tampering policies.

Brady was reported to have been in preliminary negotiations to become part owner of the Raiders last year. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to buy a stake in the team, but the deal has not been finalized. Brady’s bid is stuck in the NFL’s finance committee. If the committee approves it, Brady’s ownership stake must be approved by at least 24 of the 32 team owners.

Why Tom Brady took a year off before starting his career as a sports reporter

Before playing his final NFL season in 2022, Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million contract to be part of the Fox broadcast team and is scheduled to make his debut next week when the Dallas Cowboys face the Cleveland Browns on September 8.

In June, Brady explained why he took a year off before starting his job at Fox. “For me, it was the only way to do it,” Brady said at the SI Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina“I realized it was a whole different discipline coming straight into the season after the playing season and I really wanted to take the time to watch, listen, learn and talk to people.

“People that I really consider to be the best at what they’ve done and everyone has really welcomed me with open arms and called me out and I’m going to accomplish more before the season starts. And I’m just really thankful for all the people that have given me a lot of incredible tips and paths to success that I can take part in in the future.”
