PHOENIX (AZFamily) – An Arizona man and a college student are doing something good by rescuing a dog and giving him a forever home!
Arizona State University student Aaliyah Smith found an abandoned dog named Oliver and kept him in her dorm room for a week. Aaliyah tracked down Oliver’s owners, who said they no longer wanted the pup.
Unfortunately, Aaliyah couldn’t keep the cute pup herself, so she posted his photo on the Facebook page “Go Gilbert” and asked for someone to take him home.
The post caught the attention of Jonathan Allsop and there is a special reason why he was looking for a puppy!
Allsop told Arizona’s family that his son died of a fentanyl overdose at just 18 years old. He says his son loved dogs more than anything, so it was only right that he got a dog.
“But for some reason, when I saw him, I thought there was a connection. I didn’t necessarily know there was a connection in the moment, but my son loved dogs and he had a little dog named Buddy,” Allsop said. “And now when I sit at my desk, he doesn’t seem to sit anywhere else but next to me.”
Allsop thanked Aaliyah for sharing the puppy with her and helping him in a time of need.
“And it’s really easy to just look away and walk away from something like that. So I think if you’re in a position to make a difference, just go for it,” Allsop said. “…but he’s sweet and he’s love. And, you know, he can offer that to other people, and I don’t think people think enough about simple things that they can really do to make a difference.”
