A shocking video shows a Brooklyn woman being chased into her apartment building near Prospect Park and then strangled from behind by the creep.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman, was entering her building in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 11 p.m. Thursday when the man crept up behind her and put his arm around her neck, police said.
When the woman started screaming “Stop!” and “Help!” and resisting, the unknown attacker told her to “shut up” before letting her go.
In a video of the horrific encounter obtained by ABC 7, the woman can be seen walking through the lobby toward the mailboxes as the suspect presses the elevator button and then focuses on the victim.
The man doesn’t seem to notice the surveillance camera, quickly walks towards the woman and puts his arm around her neck.
The clip shows the woman kicking the man and the two wrestling for several seconds before he lets go of her.
After he released her, the woman called 911. She was not physically injured in the attack.
The police are now searching for the attacker, who is described as a man with dark skin and who fled the scene on foot.
The attack has left neighbors of the building near the intersection of Ocean and Parkside Avenues in Brooklyn in an uproar as authorities continue to search for the attacker.
“It’s crazy because in the picture I saw, he was literally about five feet behind her,” a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous told ABC 7.
“It makes me think twice about how I move around the neighborhood and in general,” the neighbor added.
Another neighbor, Carlos Vasquez, told the station he bought a doorbell camera after something similar happened to him.
“A lot of strange things have happened in this building. Someone followed me in once,” he said.
