“The Prime Minister recalled his successful visit to Russia last month where he attended the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit. The two leaders reviewed progress on a range of bilateral issues and discussed measures to further strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. They also exchanged views on a range of regional and global issues of mutual interest,” a government statement said.
“The two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Prime Minister shared insights from his recent visit to Ukraine. He stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, as well as sincere and practical engagement by all parties to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution to the conflict,” it said.
The Prime Minister recently visited Ukraine and discussed the ongoing conflict with Russia with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In the joint statement by India and Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi’s office said both leaders reiterated their readiness to continue to cooperate in upholding the principles of international law, including the UN Charter, such as respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. “They agreed that a closer bilateral dialogue in this regard is desirable,” the joint statement said.
Prime Minister Modi visited Russia in July, a month before his visit to Ukraine, and held bilateral talks with President Putin.
