Self-taught, internationally renowned underwater photographer Talia Greis will speak about abstract underwater images on the photography stage at the GO Diving Show ANZ.
Born and raised in the coastal urban regions of Sydney’s eastern suburbs, her appreciation for marine life exploded while diving on WA’s Ningaloo Reef.
“Understanding the great diversity and abundance of our country’s underwater world flipped a switch for me and it was imperative for me to take a camera beneath the surface as soon as possible,” she said.
“Not only to be able to recreate some of the beautiful moments that nature has to offer, but also to fully understand for myself the true colors and complexities of what I experienced.”
Talia is always keen to capture the moment as it happens, but then she realised that her role in diving had changed. Nowadays, it is impossible for her to dive without looking through the lens.
Talia has won the Ocean Art 2019 Compact Division, Emerging Photographer of the Year 2023 for Ocean Geographic, Head On Photo Festival, Landscape Category 2023, Northern Beaches Underwater Photo Competition 2023 and Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY) for the Macro Category in 2024.
Talia will be on the photo stage with this topic:
Abstract underwater photography
Talia will be speaking about abstract underwater photography – giving a brief introduction to why she loves experimenting with it as a diver in Sydney, and discussing the many different methods and techniques she uses to engage with the craft.
She shows some examples of shots she has taken using different techniques and discusses the settings and equipment requirements for achieving them.
