Modi shares “insights” from his Ukraine visit with Putin

According to local Indian media, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said they discussed the Ukraine war and exchanged perspectives. Modi said he conveyed to Putin his insights from his Ukraine visit.

Modi said: “We exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from our recent visit to Ukraine. We reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, lasting and peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

Separately, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that Modi had called for talks between the parties to resolve the dispute.

“The Prime Minister shared his insights from his recent visit to Ukraine. He stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, as well as sincere and practical engagement of all parties involved to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution to the conflict,” the Prime Minister said.

At the time of publication of the article, there was no statement from the Kremlin nor any comments from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The phone call between Modi and Putin took place a day after Modi’s conversation with US President Joe Biden. In this phone call, Modi also discussed the Ukraine conflict and informed Biden about his visit to Ukraine.

“Discussing the situation in Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. He reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for an early return of peace and stability,” the Prime Minister’s statement said.
