We know you needed a cup of joy this morning on the Andie Summers Show, so a Nashville teacher decided to help out. This teacher is giving away a pair of Nike Air Force 1 sneakers to 100 students, what an amazing gesture!
With support and donations from JD Sports and Finish Line, John Early Middle School teacher Makayla Nash was able to help students who lack confidence due to their appearance for the second year in a row by providing them with new shoes for the school year through her nonprofit organization. Drip drive.
Teacher gives gifts to students for an amazing reason
The sad truth is that sometimes kids can be cruel and make fun of others even just because of how they dress (which for many students is out of their control). Well, Makayla Nash wanted to change that and help kids look fresh this school year!
Nash, who works as a restorative practices specialist in Metro Nashville Public Schools, works with students whose families have household incomes of less than $18,500 per year, which often makes it difficult for them to afford brand-name clothing. She realized that many of her students’ problems stemmed from not feeling comfortable in their clothes, which affected their behavior and attendance. This realization motivated her to create Drip Drive to provide students with new clothing for free throughout the school year.
Founded in 2022, Drip Drive hosts several events each year where students can choose branded clothing for free thanks to community donations and partnerships. The nonprofit has received support from local celebrities, professional athletes, and the Tennessee Titans, and Nash hopes to expand the initiative both locally and nationally to reach more students in need.
