One of the first clues that eagle-eyed fans spotted took place on TikTok. It wasn’t something the “Love On” singer had posted, but something – or someone – she was following!
Fans pointed out on Reddit that she had briefly started following the CMG Weddings and Events TikTok account, where she may have been looking for tips for her alleged future wedding.
The second clue came last month after gossip account Deuxmoi reported on an anonymous source claiming that an “A-list actress and semi-retired singer” had “got engaged to her boyfriend of one year.” There may be a few actresses who fit that description, but what led fans to believe it was Selena was the anonymous source’s claim that the couple were “surrounded by friends hanging out at their usual beach hangout.” When Selena celebrated her birthday on the beach last month, fans started putting two and two together.
“I think she’s implying that Selena Gomez is engaged. It’s deuxmoi so I’m going to take it with a grain of salt or until I see it on Instagram,” wrote one doubtful fan on Reddit, while a second exclaimed, “I hope this is true! They seem great together.” “I would be so happy if they got married,” added another, which another echoed, writing, “I’m so happy for them!”
The third clue surfaced on Instagram earlier this month when fans noticed that the former Wizards of Waverly Place cast member strategically placed two pink heart emojis above her left finger in a mirror selfie she shared on her Instagram Story, leading them to believe she was hiding an engagement ring.
The “Lose You to Love Me” singer also hid her left ring finger in some selfies she shared on Instagram a few days later, which also led people to believe that she was hiding a giant sparkler.
The post was shared with her 424 million Instagram followers on August 20 and began with a throwback video in which she got emotional when she learned she had landed the role in the French film Emilia Perez. In the same carousel were two mirror selfies, with the “Wolves” singer’s left hand and left ring finger suspiciously hidden.
A source reportedly told Life & Style earlier this month that the singer *does* actually have a ring on *that* finger and will announce her engagement when the time is right!
“Selena wears a ring on that finger. It’s only a matter of time before she and Benny make it official,” the source said, adding, “Selena has never been happier and she’s been telling everyone he’s the one. Benny makes her feel like a queen every day. He’s everything she could want in a husband.”
