USC Trojans Zion and Zachariah Branch sign historic NIL contracts with iconic brand

In Los Angeles, image and branding are everything, which is why USC has become one of the most famous and glamorous football programs in America.

Now two Trojans are going a step further, signing historic NIL contracts with the biggest brand in sports. Zion and Zachariah Branch are the first college football athletes to ever sign a contract with the legendary Jordan Brand.

Zachariah, a sophomore wide receiver, and Zion, a sophomore safety, are both expected to be key contributors to USC’s success this fall.

Zion has endured two consecutive seasons in which a knee injury has limited his availability. In 2022, he tore his ACL and missed the entire season. Then, last year, he was only able to make nine appearances as his knee again proved to be a problem.

He has made 22 tackles in his career, including just one for a loss. He has yet to record an interception or pass defense, but he has forced a fumble. This year, however, the belief is that he could play a major role in rebuilding USC’s defense if he stays healthy.

Zachariah has accomplished more than that, though. Last season, he was an All-American kick returner, averaging 18.4 yards per kick return and 20.8 yards per punt return.

In addition, he contributed to the passing game with 31 catches and 321 yards. This year, he is expected to play a larger role in the offense as the team’s slot receiver and many believe he will be a budding offensive star.

While this deal with the Jordan Brand gives the Branch brothers plenty of Jordan apparel, they won’t be wearing it on game days. USC has a team deal with Nike, meaning Zion and Zachariah won’t be wearing Jordan gear on the court.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime NIL opportunity for the brothers and a testament to the strength of the USC brand, as the Trojans’ place in the Los Angeles pop culture scene had to play a role in this partnership. Additionally, it is another sign of how the collegiate sports landscape has changed thanks to NIL opportunities for athletes.
