“I was coming home from the airport and had a work meeting so I was sitting on my laptop, my parents were sitting quietly in the taxi. Suddenly this beggar… asked for money,” the Reddit user wrote.

She added that she never gives money to beggars as she believes that “taxes are enough as a donation.” When she refused to give money, the beggar started abusing and cursing her.

“We pay taxes, we don’t owe these people anything, yaar! They are just trying to get money from us, they are not even working,” the woman continued, adding: “Hum 10-12 ghante roz work kre (We work 10-12 hours every day) and they just insult us until we get money! This is blackmail!”

How did Reddit users react to this post about a beggar?

“When I was in college, one day I was hanging out with my girlfriend. A beggar came so I gave her 10 rupees and she said ‘tumhari jodi hmesa bni rhe’. A month later we broke up because she wanted to meet other guys. I think it was 6 years ago now and I still think that beggar cheated on me. I hope you learned something from this,” wrote one Reddit user sarcastically.

“Oh my god, the same thing happened to me today and he was a guy, around his 20s I guess; he asked me for money and I gave him 10 rupee coins and he got angry and said ‘Itna kyu deri hai, yeh bhi apne paas rakh’ so what! Why are they so rude and arrogant? This has spoiled my whole day,” posted another.

A third posted: “They are so rude. Once I was on the bus with my mom and this hijra (transgender) asked for money and I told her no. Then she said ‘itne kamzor ho’. I was insulted because why would a beggar tell me something like that? Then I told her to go away. And oh my god the drama started. She started cursing me. She told me that she is a hijra and her curses are real. And when I said something she started clapping loudly. Man this ruined my week. I literally had a panic attack and couldn’t breathe for a while. Now I’m scared of them.”

“Charity is a good deed that reflects our responsibility towards society and humanity, but it is everyone’s choice whether to do it or not, and nowadays it has really become a business (everyone knows this), everyone wants money but few want to earn it. I often witness cases of children begging, they are taught to be stubborn. I never give money to a stranger, but if I feel someone is really needy, I prefer to buy them food,” a fourth person added.
