The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued several recalls last week, including notices of recall of over 187,000 Honda Ridgeline trucks due to a problem with the rearview camera.

BMW recall due to defective seat belt
BMW is recalling 3,256 of its 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles. In the NHTSA report, the luxury manufacturer explained that the seat belt system may not detect that passengers in the vehicle are buckled up. As a result, the seat belt warning light does not illuminate and may result in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) not being properly deployed in an accident. If a seat belt warning light does not alert the driver that their passengers are not buckled up or the SRS system does not deploy, it can increase the risk of injury in an accident.
Therefore, these vehicles did not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, “Occupant Protection in Crashes,” the NHTSA report states.
To correct this issue, dealers will inspect the front seat lower seat belts and replace them if necessary. All services are completely free of charge. Notification letters are expected to be sent out on July 5. Owners can contact BMW Customer Service at 1-800-525-7417.

Ford recall due to software error that disrupts drive performance
Ford is recalling 8,727 of its vehicles. The hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM) software can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly shift into neutral, which can lead to a loss of propulsion power. When a driver loses the ability to control propulsion power, it increases the risk of a crash, the NHTSA report says.
Mechanics can update the HPCM software at the dealer for free. Recall notices are expected to go out on May 23. Owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. The Ford number for this recall is 24S33.

Honda recalls Ridgeline models due to defective rearview camera
Honda is recalling 187,290 of its Ridgeline trucks from 2020 to 2024. In the NHTSA report, the automaker explained that the tailgate camera’s wiring harness could become outdated and break, preventing the rearview camera image from being displayed. If a rearview camera does not display the image of objects adjacent to the rear of the vehicle, it can increase the risk of an accident.
To fix the problem, mechanics will replace the rearview camera wiring harness on the tailgate. All service on the recalled vehicle will be performed free of charge. Notification letters are expected to be delivered by July 1. Owners can contact Honda Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is YI7.
