Brazil’s Foreign Minister visits India and co-chairs the 9th meeting of the India-Brazil Joint Commission

New Delhi (India), August 24 (ANI): Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will pay an official visit to India from August 25 to 28. During his visit, he will chair the 9th meeting of the India-Brazil Joint Commission along with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on August 27.

According to a press release from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar and Vieira will discuss how the two countries, as part of the troika, can advance key G20 outcomes from India’s G20 presidency last year. Brazil holds the G20 presidency until November 2024. The G20 troika during Brazil’s G20 presidency in 2024 will consist of India, Brazil and South Africa.

Brazil will host the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18 and 19. The G20 consists of 19 countries – Argentina, India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Russia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States – as well as two regional organizations: the African Union and the European Union.

In a press release, the Ministry of External Affairs stated: “India-Brazil relations are multifaceted and based on shared values. The upcoming visit of Foreign Minister Vieira provides an opportunity to further strengthen the strategic partnership established in 2006 and to explore new avenues of cooperation in various sectors at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.” In early July, Dammu Ravi, Secretary for Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Affairs, led the Indian delegation to the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

During the meeting, he highlighted India’s flagship programmes including Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT and reiterated India’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the areas of water and sanitation.

The meeting culminated in the adoption of a call by G20 ministers underlining the commitment to improving drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services worldwide.

During the meeting, Dammu Ravi underlined India’s proactive role and highlighted important national initiatives to improve sanitation and access to water.

Minister Ravi highlighted India’s flagship programmes including Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT and reiterated India’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and sanitation. (ANI)
