And while channels like Gloucester and Tebay appeal to celebrities for their fine dining, they are among the channels with the most limited selection.
Instead, the Beaconsfield service station, just off the M40, was at the top of the list with a whopping 16 restaurants on its premises.
Visitors can enjoy a meal at outlets such as Nando’s and Pizza Express, as well as the usual offerings from McDonald’s and KFC.
There is even a Wetherspoons pub, the Hope & Champion, built into the petrol station itself.
And even if drivers cannot benefit from the cheap beer prices, they can definitely get a great bargain on the delicious daily menu.
Beyond Beaconsfield, Fleet Services counted 15 restaurants on the M3 southbound, including a Pret, a Subway and a Chopstix Noodle Bar.
The M25 then had two entrances to secure third and fourth place, with Cobham boasting 14 branches and South Mimms 13.
The remaining six services were all on par with the final 13 and completed the top 10.
It seems that the most diverse petrol station food can be found in the South, as the table only included two entries from the top half of the country, both in the West Midlands.
These were Hopwood Park on the M42 and Corley on the north side of the M6.
Overall, the South East was the best region with three entries, followed by London and the West Midlands with two each.
One option each in the East of England and the South West completed the list.
And many of the locations with the most diverse food offerings also made it into the top 10 best-rated rest stops.
Beaconsfield, Fleet, Exeter and Cherwood Valley all made it, while others were pushed out by famous posh compounds such as Gloucester and Tebay.
