The ending between quarterback Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders was not ideal, but the storm has long since subsided.
Carr, the franchise’s all-time leading pass yardage player, played nine seasons for the Silver and Black and concluded his tenure with the club as one of the best quarterbacks in its illustrious history.
The current New Orleans Saints quarterback will have the opportunity to face his former team in Week 17 when New Orleans hosts the Raiders at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Carr will be seeing former teammates he still considers close friends, but that by no means means he will slack off when he takes the field in this late-season game.
“It’s great now because they’re all my friends,” Carr said while appearing on the “Up & Adams Show” on Thursday. “I love AP (Antonio Pierce), I had a great time with him, I thought he was great and he was perfect for the job. I love Mark Davis. I have a great relationship with him, a great relationship with the quarterbacks, the receivers — Tae (Davante Adams) is obviously one of my best friends from college. We have a lot of memories together. Maxx (Crosby). I have so many guys on this team that are some of my closest friends. If I saw them right now, we would have a great time.
“But in Week 17, I’m trying to win. I’m definitely trying to win. And I always root for the Raiders, but not this week.”
Carr totaled 35,222 passing yards and 217 passing yards in his nine years with the Raiders. As a Raider, he participated in four Pro Bowls.
After former Raiders coach Josh McDaniels benched the veteran quarterback for the final two games of the 2022 season, the Raiders released Carr in February of that year.
In his first season as a Saint, Carr started all 17 games and threw for 3,878 yards and 25 touchdowns. He and New Orleans finished the season 9-8, narrowly missing the postseason.
The showdown between the Saints and the Raiders will take place on Sunday, December 29th before the season finale in Las Vegas against the Los Angeles Chargers.
