The Chicago Bears enter the 2024-25 regular season in an intriguing situation: They have some ballers on this team. After finishing 9th in fantasy points per game last season, DJ Moore was rewarded with a new contract, and at 27 years old, he shows no signs of slowing down.

He’ll be off the board quickly, with Keenan Allen being the only Bear who could go sooner. Allen comes to the Bears after spending the first 11 years of his career with the Chargers, and in 2023 he was phenomenal, averaging over 21.5 fantasy points per game.

You can’t put those two in coverage, though, because rookie Rome Odunze can really give a defense a run for its money after leading the FBS in receiving yards last season.

Another newcomer to the Windy City is running back D’Andre Swift, a former second-round pick who rushed for 1,049 yards last season, fifth-most in the NFL. He also caught 39 passes out of the backfield, so the points-per-reception (PPR) format should benefit his performance. He will likely split time with Khalil Herbert, who averaged 9.4 fantasy points per game last season in the standard PPR format.

The bulk of the tight end targets should once again go to Cole Kmet, who is entering his fifth season and his first under a new contract signed last offseason. He was a top-10 tight end in PPR last season and is a great player later on. Also in the conversation is Gerald Everett, who caught over 400 yards for the Chargers last season and should help the Bears with their personnel diversity.

Oh, yeah, and there’s a new quarterback in town. And a Heisman Trophy winner at that. Caleb Williams may need to distribute the ball for the Bears to remain successful, which could limit the aforementioned talent ever so slightly, but he’s the obvious X-factor in the Bears’ offense and could be a great addition once some of the top quarterbacks are no longer available.

Ryan Poles has done well. The Bears GM has really assembled a lot of talent around the #1 NFL draft pick (Williams), and it’s going to be a great season for Bears fans to play fantasy football.

Think you can do better? Let’s play some fantasy football games!

FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Windy City Gridiron is entering the second year of our fantasy football league and we have six spots open! To level the playing field between those who have never played fantasy sports and those who have been playing for years, we play under very standardized PPR rules. If you play with a different scoring system, let us know in the comments!

The fantasy draft is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Central Time.

The rosters consist of 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 2 wide receivers, 1 tight end, 1 flex (any RB, WR or TE can be used here), 1 defense and 1 kicker. The bench is limited to 4 players to avoid excessive player reserves.

The following Windy City Gridiron contributors are in the league:

Jack R Salo

Sam Householder

Bryan Orenchuk

Jacob Infante

The league consists of 14 teams and there are still 6 free spots. These spots are in high demand, so register quickly! First come, first served.

CHOOSE THE EMS LEAGUE

If you’re looking for a very relaxed game with an extremely low time commitment (just 5 minutes per week), consider a weekly Pick Em’ league. Pick Em’ gives you a full list of that week’s NFL games, and you predict the winner of each game and give your picks. After each week, you can see how well you did and compare yourself to other players in the league.

SURVIVING FOOTBALL

Similar to Pick ‘Ems, Survivor is an exciting game where each week you pick an NFL team that you are confident will win the matchup. Once you pick that team in a season, you cannot pick them again. If your pick is wrong, you get a strike. We set it at two strikes and you’re out. You get a miss for the upcoming season and the next one is your last.
