You know that effortless woman, the one whose vintage jeans are loose and worn in all the right places? The one who throws on a chunky knit sweater and tennis chain and looks red carpet ready? The one so many of us want to emulate? Yes, me too. I happen to know a few of these women who combine elegance with sloppiness. And they all own the same pair of simple, chic loafers that they put on when they leave the house to no doubt meet someone equally as fabulous. The shoes in question: Jamie Haller’s penny loafers.
Every cool fashion girl you know probably owns them, and having owned a pair for nearly three years, I can say they really live up to the hype. They’re different. The silhouette is classic, but the savoir-faire is old-school. So what do you get? A pair of shoes that have the gorgeous design of the menswear classic, but with a softer character, a bit like a loafer. The bespoke sacchetto construction – the loafers are handmade in Tuscany – gives the perfect blend of old-world charm and a vintage feel with a sturdy but pliable construction.
When you put them on, they fit a little more glove-like without being too rigid, and so they get this nice patina and personality as you wear them. That’s how they show how much you’ve loved them, but not necessarily with age. After three years, my oxblood pair has personality and wear, but it gets better with time. I just make sure to replace the leather sole when it wears out.
As for style, I find that these loafers go with almost any outfit, whether it’s comfy jeans or something more feminine. They also look great with knit socks in the fall and sheer socks in the spring. In other words, they’re versatile. It’s not often that an influencer-loved shoe is actually worn beyond the perfectly styled photos we see, but if there’s one shoe that’s made for life, it’s Jamie Haller’s penny loafer. I’ll be wearing mine until I just can’t anymore.
