Drew Barrymore wants to start practicing the opposite of closeness and personality.
Barrymore, whose talk show of the same name was recently prematurely renewed for a sixth season, admitted in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that she will “try to maintain physical distance” during interviews and when dealing with guests in the future.
“Well, I’m going to try to maintain physical distance, which is not my strong suit,” Barrymore said. “Do you know how hard the pandemic has been for me? I’ve been alone in a studio! I like being around people!”
She continued, “I think that first of all, we’re always going to spread a lot of joy and laughter and good cheer, and that’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Barrymore explained. “But I never imagined we would launch during a pandemic, and trying to lean on the joy and the good feeling and the comedy was really weird and crazy at the time.”
News of the renewal of The Drew Barrymore Show came ahead of the season 5 premiere on September 9. Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, said, “Drew is a unique talent and an integral part of the CBS and Paramount family.”
“This early renewal and upgrades are a testament to our commitment to ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ and its loyal audience who tune in every day to see Drew’s warmth, curiosity and spontaneity,” she added.
According to CBS, the show averages 1.1 million viewers and has been watched for nearly six billion minutes this season. The high ratings have boosted the show’s time slots on CBS – the talk show now airs in six markets, including five of the top 10 markets.
