HUNTSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — Snowbasin Resort has announced that it will be making several upgrades throughout the resort, including improvements to lifts and gondolas, terrain, and traffic and parking.

The upgrades will be carried out over the course of the next year and will be completed before the 2025/26 season, but guests will experience some of these improvements starting this ski season.

Perhaps the most anticipated improvements include parking and transportation to and from the resort.

Snowbasin Resort announced that it is implementing a new traffic pattern starting this summer in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation from Trapper’s Loop. The new pattern will allow cars coming from the southbound and northbound lanes to turn onto Snowbasin Road at the same time. Officials say this change will improve traffic flow at the resort and allow for an estimated 25 percent increase in vehicle speeds.

The northern Utah ski resort will continue to offer free parking and free shuttle service, but Earl’s A through E parking lots will be reserved for vehicles with three or more occupants until 11 a.m. every weekend.

“This upgrade will improve traffic flow for guests by splitting traffic into two lanes and will also offer express parking and priority access for carpoolers,” resort officials said in a press release.

Snowbasin Resort will also work on upgrading the Becker chairlift, which officials say will be completed before the 2025-26 winter season. Improvements include moving from a “clamped triple chair” to a “removable quad chair,” which officials say will improve speed and passenger capacity per hour.

The changes to the Becker chairlift will also bring improvements to the surrounding beginner terrain. The base station will be moved next to the Wildcat chairlift, which the resort says will allow for easier access. Bear Hollow, Snowshoe and Slow Road will also be widened to improve flow and safety in the family zone.

“Snowbasin is committed to being the most accessible mountain in Utah and these improvements will greatly improve our accessibility and efficiency,” said Davy Ratchford, General Manager of Snowbasin Resort. “We look forward to welcoming guests to experience these new improvements that will further enhance the world-class amenities and service we strive to provide.”

Starting this year, the Needles Gondola will undergo a multi-year renovation project. Resort officials said guests will notice these improvements to the gondola’s cabins starting with the upcoming 2024-25 ski season.
