WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WCHS) — A union representing employees at the Greenbrier Hotel said a deadline to pay back health insurance premiums had been extended after an auction to sell the resort was canceled.
The Amalgamated National Health Fund said it will continue to provide health insurance benefits to Greenbrier employees represented by the Greenbrier Council of Labor Unions through Aug. 31, a four-day extension, according to a union press release.
The union had previously claimed that Greenbrier had failed to transfer employee contributions deducted from workers’ salaries to the fund.
Despite the extension, the union said the arrears were “real, tangible and documented.” The union had previously said it would consider legal action if the problem was not resolved.
“We continue to demand that The Greenbrier meet its overdue contract obligations and remain hopeful for an agreement between the AHNF and The Greenbrier to ensure continued services in the future,” the union said in a press release.
The extension came after the cancellation of a public auction planned for the Greenbrier after the Justice family announced a settlement with Beltway Capital, which had declared its default.
