Backstage Camera Roll: Gryffin at Outside Lands

Backstage Camera Roll: Gryffin at Outside Lands

Gripping started the month off big when the electronic music producer released his third album PULSE two days in August. That same day, he took the stage at the Veld Music Festival – an annual gathering of exciting EDM artists in Toronto – before travelling to Montreal the next day to perform at the city’s Osheaga Festival. Less than a week later, he was back in the US, where he performed at San Francisco’s Outside the countries.

Now that things have calmed down a bit for the DJ and producer, he takes a moment to reflect on the hazy past of his trip, which was his brief stay in the Bay Area, where he was able to reunite with his family (including his dog Gigi) before jumping on stage for a performance with numerous guests — and later following up with a surprise appearance at a Boiler Room-esque pop-up show elsewhere in the city.

Although we couldn’t be there in person, a backstage photo diary is the next best thing. Below is Gryffin’s summary of the day in words and pictures.

Heading to Outside Lands! It’s so nice to be back in the Bay – I spent the morning hanging out with my family and experiencing new things, had lunch at one of our favorite spots, and then headed over to the festival.

Before the show I hang out with my wife Steph and my dog Gigi!

The family! It’s always fun to do shows in San Francisco and get them out there.

A good luck kiss for Geeg before we go on stage. When I first toured she used to go everywhere with us on the bus. She’s getting older now so this is her first show this year but she still loves seeing the team and hanging out in the green room.

I had to bring some special guests for the hometown show! Here’s Zohara contributing some live vocals for our latest collaboration, “WHERE ARE YOU TONIGHT.”

MAX was also part of “MAGNET”.

I had a lot of fun incorporating some new tracks into this set alongside the fan favorites.

The production team started. Probably the most pyrotechnics I’ve ever seen at a show.

Got out the piano and slowed it down for “Heading Home.”

Probably my favorite thing about Outside Lands is the wide variety of genres. The next day I went to see a few other acts – this is right after Sabrina Carpenter.

Later that night, we did a surprise pop-up set for 500 people in San Francisco. That was my first time doing the 360-degree Boiler Room style set and it was insane. It was so much fun to be up close and personal and feel everyone’s energy.
