Pat McAfee may have had a little too much to drink during ESPN’s live radio broadcast on Friday.
McAfee and his crew held their show at a pub in Ireland before Saturday’s Aer Lingus College Football Classic between Florida State and Georgia Tech.
Things were getting out of hand, to say the least.
A few minutes after the show began, McAfee drank a Guinness
“We came to Ireland to have fun,” chanted McAfee before gulping down a beer. “We’re chugging beers, we’re already drunk. American football has become a dream. Everyone here is part of our team.”
At one point, McAfee stood up and performed an Irish dance with “Miss Terry,” Nick Saban’s wife, who appeared on the show on Friday.
In a moment of clarity, McAfee quipped, “We shouldn’t be on TV right now.”
After an appearance by former Florida State quarterback and current Jets Jordan Travis, the drinking was about to continue, and McAfee made an announcement to his friend Sheamus, a professional wrestler who worked as a bartender at JR Mahon’s Pub, and the rest of the crowd.
“I just want everyone to know that I almost puked a few moments ago,” McAfee admitted. “Sheamus, I put you to bed last night, but right now I feel like I’m in a bad place.”
After declaring he had “maybe ten beers in him already,” a bleary-eyed McAfee attempted to end the show before ESPN’s live segment switched to SportsCenter.
“If I was, uh, who I am, a very honest person, I would be devastated right now,” McAfee said, according to The Big Lead. “I don’t know how we would have done a show in Ireland without that happening, but I want to let everyone know…”
After the world’s leading musician left the air, the party continued at JR Mahon’s. Sheamus climbed up the bar and chanted “You’ll Never Beat the Irish.”
