Kangaroo caught on camera by drivers in Collinsville (VIDEO)

Drivers in Collinsville were startled on Sunday when they spotted a jumping kangaroo on the road.

Tray Reed captured video of the animal hopping along County Road 83 around 7:15 p.m.

“I thought I was hallucinating,” Reed told 1819 News.

Since kangaroos are native to eastern Australia, it is not common to see one in the wild in Alabama.

However, 1819 News was able to track down the kangaroo’s owner, who said Delilah was home and safe at Safari Farms & Exotics in Collinsville.

Although owning a kangaroo is illegal in Alabama, the farm has special licenses and permits to breed and sell exotic animals such as camels, zebras, buffalo and ostriches.

It’s unclear how Delilah escaped from her enclosure, but the owner said he’s had her for many years and this has never happened. He said she was nervous after storms on Sunday and he thinks she may have been frightened.

At the moment she is back at Safari Farms with her buddy and lives there.

Reed said he was glad the kangaroo was no longer on the streets.
