There are few places in Detroit more magical than Greenfield Village. The historic village is a 200-acre, immersive destination that has been enjoyed by people of all ages for generations. Here are reasons to visit this fall.
Open daily through September 8th and remaining open Tuesday through Sunday throughout September before general admission closes for the season, Greenfield Village is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the changing leaves and the great outdoors.
If you live in the metro Detroit area, we highly recommend purchasing a family membership. Not only will you save on special events, but for a family of four, a one-time visit to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is only $215. That means admission to the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village will pay for itself with just two visits a year and then some.
Show your children what life was like in the 19th century and experience the real farm-to-table process as they watch fields being worked using horsepower, eggs being collected from live chickens and vegetables being roasted for an authentic farm lunch. Children will be impressed by the process and the farm animals, which include horses, sheep, pigs, cows and chickens.
No matter what age you are, the artisans at work in Liberty Craftworks are inspiring. See Christmas ornaments, vases and bowls being hand-made in the pottery and glass factory. Take home a souvenir and pick up an item in the gift shop to keep or give as a Christmas present.
Make your visit extra special and take a ride through the village in a Model T bus shuttle or a horse-drawn shuttle. Board the historic train for a 3-mile ride or take a spin on the Hershell-Spillman carousel with hand-carved animals.
Vilalge Playground is a hidden gem and one of our favorites. Kids will love the uniquely designed park, modeled after a 1930’s construction site and including an interactive steam excavator, 20-foot boiler tunnel, 1931 Model AA truck, giant slide, swings and more!
Hundreds of vehicles dating from the 1890s to 1932 come from across the country to be perfectly displayed at the place where American history comes alive. The Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village is a wild ride that embodies the sincere optimism of the American Dream from the turn of the century to the Great Depression. Stroll through the village to meet the owners who have passionately preserved these treasured machines. Watch drivers compete in games of skill, listen to the distinctive sounds of century-old vehicles, or sit back and enjoy expert insight as drivers drive through the pass-in-review parade.
From harvest markets and fall themes to costumed fairy tale characters and ghost performances, Henry Ford’s 44-year-old Halloween tradition is an event not to be missed. (and it sells out FAST). Halloween in Greenfield Village takes place 16 nights in October and is designed so that guests can stroll through the village at their own pace and choose their own festive or spooky experience. The experience includes: Halloween Express train ride (additional $4 ticket purchase required), more than 50 costumed characters, dramatic vignettes fromThe Legend of Sleepy Hollow, lighted jack-o-lantern trail, FREE horse-drawn carriage rides and more.
