CLOVIS, NM (KVII) — A Clovis man was arrested after admitting to attempting to have sex with a girl he thought was 14 and his dog.
The investigation began on Saturday when a group called the Colorado Ped Patrol was in Clovis and had contact with Timothy Conrad Harper.
The group had contact with Harper, who thought she was a 13-year-old girl and arranged a meeting via text message with the intention of having sex.
Colorado Ped Patrol members arrived at 709 E. 4th Street and contacted Harper. They then notified Clovis Police of the situation and officers responded and requested a detective to investigate the complaint.
An investigator came and reviewed the information provided by the group, including a record from Facebook Messenger and the TextNow application. The information provided matched Harper’s cell phone number.
During a conversation with a detective, Harper admitted to speaking with a young girl he believed lived in Clovis. He also admitted that the original purpose of meeting the girl was to have sex so she could learn about sex.
Harper admitted that he believed she was only about 14 years old and that he had sent her photos while communicating and planning a meeting.
He also admitted to engaging in sexual acts with his dog and provided the detective with information about the dog.
Harpers was previously arrested and convicted in 1991 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl. He was required to register as a sex offender for life and admitted to police officers that he had lived in Clovis for the past six years and had not registered with the state.
As a result of the investigation, Harper was arrested and transported to the Curry County Detention Center, where he was held on a warrant for sexual exploitation of children, zoophilia, and failure to register as a sex offender, all fourth-degree felonies.
The investigation is ongoing and Clovis Police are asking the public for help and any information they can provide regarding this investigation.
