RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – To mark the opening of the 2024-2025 school year, the Rapid City Area Schools District hosted a kickoff event at the Monument Theater Monday morning.
Attendees enjoyed a buffet breakfast before the program began at 8 a.m. The event included performances by the drumlines and cheerleaders from Steven and Central High Schools, with various organizations handing out gifts to guests.
The purpose of this opening event was to bring all of the district’s teachers and staff together, an opportunity for them to reconnect and hear positive messages from their colleagues for the coming year.
About 1,700 teachers attended this morning’s event. Cory Strasser, assistant superintendent of Rapid City Area Schools, said he is excited and confident about the coming year.
“I’m looking forward to this school year and I trust all of our staff to meet the challenges that a school year normally brings, but also to set the tone, bring a lot of positivity and really pay attention to tapping into the human potential that was talked about so much this morning,” Strasser said.
Strasser said his biggest focus this school year is on communicating effectively with parents while also figuring out how to best support and mentor students.
