Labrador Retrievers and Miniature Poodles are the frontrunners for the second year in a row

Camp Bow Wow’s listings include a range of purebred dogs, mixed breed dogs, and popular crossbreeds such as Doodles, rather than just listing purebred dog registrations.
For the seventh year in a row, the Labrador Retriever and its crossbreeds top the list of large breeds, followed by the Goldendoodle, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd and Australian Shepherd.
For the second year in a row, the miniature poodle tops the list of small breeds, followed by the beagle, chihuahua, shih tzu and dachshund.
For the seventh year in a row, the Labrador Retriever and its crossbreeds are at the top of the large breeds, followed by the Goldendoodle, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd and Australian Shepherd. For the second year in a row, the Miniature Poodle is at the top of the small breeds, followed by the Beagle, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu and Dachshund. The Beagle topped the list of small dog breeds for five years before the Toy Poodle took the top spot in 2022.

For example, the Goldendoodle is most popular in Iowa And Kentuckyand the Australian Cattle Dog sneaked into the top five in New Mexico. For those thinking about adopting a dog, Camp Bow Wow’s animal health and behavior expert, Erin AskelandMSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, points out that the biggest difference between large and small dog breeds is life expectancy. Small dogs tend to have a longer life expectancy of 12 to 15 years or more, while large dogs typically have a life expectancy of about 8 to 12 years (8 to 10 in giant breeds).
