A woman was defended after she “ruined” her older sister’s wedding by telling the groom about the bride’s past.

In the infamous “Am I the Asshole” thread on Reddit, the 20-year-old woman first explained that her 30-year-old sister – who she calls Emily – married her partner, 34-year-old Danny, a few months ago.

She explained that she, Emily and her other sister, Mary, 27, grew up together.

The woman said of her siblings: “They were both wild and so from a young age I knew a lot more than I was supposed to know (about parties, dating, etc., nothing really weird or scandalous).”

Mary got married four years ago and the woman explained that she was “really close” to her brother-in-law. She added: “He knows about her partying, her drinking and pretty much everything else she did and he never had a problem with it.”

However, she had only met Danny, Emily’s partner, “a few times” and assumed that the two “talked about everything.”

Then came the wedding rehearsal, which took place the day before the big day, and everyone started telling “interesting stories” from their childhood.

“Danny asked me why I never went out, drank or partied. I didn’t even think it was a big deal and said that after hearing all the stories from my older sisters, I never really wanted to or felt the need to,” the woman continued.

Danny then looked “a little confused” but said nothing while Mary “glared at her.”

The Redditor continued, “Later, Mary told me that Danny didn’t know about Emily’s ‘wild days.’ I apologized to Emily and she told me it was no big deal.”

After not thinking about the ordeal for a few months, everything reached a boiling point when Emily and Danny visited her.

She recalled: “I hadn’t thought about it for two months, but Emily and Danny visited us yesterday. Danny was as nice as ever, while Emily was a bit distant.

“When Danny went out with our father, Mary and Emily conspired against me and told me that Danny was mad at Emily for lying and that I had ruined their wedding and honeymoon.”

Then the sisters’ mother intervened and defended her youngest to Mary and Emily, blaming her for their “lies.”

“After they went to my sister’s house (they were going to stay with her for a few days before this incident), I started to worry and feel bad about what had happened and the role I had played in it,” the woman continued.

“My mother told my father and my brother what happened and they both said I had done nothing wrong and my father said he would get my sisters to apologize but I don’t want them to get involved.”

Concluding her post, the woman asked, “So, AITA, because you ruined my sister’s wedding and honeymoon?”

It seems as if everyone agreed that they were not definitely not the asshole in this scenario.

One Reddit user defended himself: “How do you keep up with the lies when you don’t know there are lies to keep up with?!?!

“It is common knowledge that wedding rehearsals are the time to tease the bride and groom in a good-natured way. Emily and Mary should have seen this coming and warned you.”

A second person spoke up: “Your sister should have been honest.”

And one final Reddit user echoed: “NTA. So your sister’s lies are YOUR fault? Not even in the slightest!”
