If you owned a Dreamcast in the early 2000s and loved vehicle-based games, you may have come across Red Dog: Superior firepower in the past.

A collaboration between the Star Fox And crocodile Developed by developers Argonaut Games and publisher Sega (note: the game was published in North America by Crave Entertainment), it was one of the first third-party games developed for the console outside of Japan. Players got behind the wheel of a large armored assault vehicle before going on missions that required them to blast away aliens, navigate difficult terrain, and escort cargo to their destination.

The game was received quite well upon its original release, receiving an 8.2 from IGNDC and an 89 from Game Fan magazine. It also seems to have a small fanbase online, which eventually prompted the developers to release the source code in 2022. And now it seems that a fan of the title named Chaotic Ray is trying to bring the game back under the name. Red Dog: Revivaland uploaded a promising video devlog late last month.

According to the video description, the project is “something like a remake of the original game, but for modern hardware,” with the footage shown representing “a fairly crude prototype.” At the moment, some basic mechanics are implemented, including driving, braking, boosting, strafing, shooting, and the shield mechanic. The developer has also reportedly reached out to Matt Godbolt and Saviz Izadpanah, two of the three programmers credited on the original release, for more information and advice.

We will definitely keep an eye on the development of this project and encourage others to do the same by following the channel here.
