Buy now or wait?

Now it’s clear why the 2024 Subaru Solterra has been selling faster in the U.S. over the past four months. As I’ve previously reported, the Solterra EV has been posting record sales since April. You can read my report here.

An updated report from Consumer Reports (by subscription) shows that the 2024 Solterra EV is the new car with the highest discount you can buy right now.

Consumer Reports says, “For this list, we focused on what people paid, and we didn’t limit the selection to models that meet CR’s strict criteria for a recommendation. We identified 10 models that sell for less than their list price, each for less than $50,000.”

I have listed the top ten models that are sold below their list price.

  1. Subaru Solterra: 12% discount
  2. Mercedes-Benz EQB: 11% discount
  3. Alfa Romeo Stelvio: 10% discount
  4. Mercedes-Benz C-Class: 8% discount
  5. Volvo XC60: 8% discount
  6. Buick Enclave: 8% discount
  7. Mercedes-Benz GLC: 8% discount
  8. Ram 1500: 7% discount
  9. Mercedes-Benz GLA: 7% discount
  10. Toyota Crown: 6% discount

Surprisingly, the Solterra is the new car with the highest discounts. This is mainly due to the manufacturer’s sales incentives and special financing terms that make it an attractive option for potential buyers. Most of the newest vehicles on the list are luxury models.

CR says: “This month, the biggest discounts are on premium brand models, but there are great deals to be had across the price spectrum.”

For the analysis, CR used recent transaction data from TrueCar, a CR partner, to find out where people were able to get significant savings off list price on the 2024 models.

What does CR say about the 2024 Subaru Solterra?

  • Price range: $44,995 – $51,995
  • CR MPGE: Overall 102 / City 111 / Highway 93 MPGe
  • No. 5 of 16 electric SUVs

2024 Subaru Solterra Premium AWD

  • MSRP: $44,995
  • Average savings from MSRP: $5,259
  • Average transaction price: $39,736

What happened in April?

The Subaru Solterra saw a significant increase in sales, which continued into the summer months.

  • April – 1,456
  • May – 1,546
  • June – 1,236
  • July – 1,261

Something significant happened in April.

At this point, the Solterra experienced a significant increase in sales that continued into the summer months. This increase was due to the manufacturer’s sales incentives and special financing terms, making it an opportune time for potential buyers.

The 2024 Subaru Solterra stands out as the leader in sales percentage increase, mainly due to the manufacturer’s sales incentives and special financing rates.

Here are Solterra’s sales numbers for the first quarter of the year, before Subaru offered the sales incentives.

  • January – 379
  • February -322
  • March -446

Should you buy now?

If you’re considering purchasing a Solterra EV, now might be the best time.

Customers can finance the 2024 Solterra for 72 months at 0% APR. The offer is valid now through September 3, 2024. You can lease a 2024 Solterra for $329 per month for 36 months. $329 is due at signing, plus tax and license.

According to CR, the 2024 Subaru Solterra Premium AWD is the trim level with the lowest discount.

The Premium trim level is the base model and is fully equipped. If you choose the Solterra Premium trim level, you will receive:

  • Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
  • 8.3 inches ground clearance
  • X-MODE and hill start/descent assistant
  • StarDrive – emission-free, fully electric drivetrain
  • EyeSight driver assistance technology
  • Automatic climate control
  • Blind spot monitoring

I would choose the Solterra Limited trim because it offers more features that active buyers want. Check out my 2024 lineup and the standard features on each trim level here.
