LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – Longview ISD students returned to school this week with a new superintendent.
The first few days of school have been extremely busy for Longview ISD’s new superintendent, Marla Sheppard.

“(Sheppard) was very dedicated. We were so excited to see her here on our campuses and welcome our families,” said Brandi Patterson, principal of Johnston-McQueen Elementary School. “It’s going to be a great year and all of our students are going to achieve their goals and reach their full potential and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Tuesday morning, Sheppard was at Johnston-McQueen Elementary School and spoke briefly with KETK about her plans.
“There are a lot of wonderful things happening in Longview ISD and there are a lot of really great staff and a lot of good people here,” Sheppard said. “I visited four schools yesterday and in each of those schools I saw boys and girls learning and getting to know each other.”

Sheppard plans to visit all 13 of the district’s campuses this week. Her willingness to stop by each campus has set the tone for Longview ISD.
“A flame was lit in all of us that inspired us to be there for our students every day,” Patterson said. “That means the world to me as an educator.”
The district’s theme for the school year is “Embracing the All,” which resonates with Sheppard.
“Focus on each individual child and what we can do to inspire them, support them and ensure they succeed,” Sheppard said.
